By Anshu Jindal – The MACRA 2018 Final Rule for year-two of Quality Payment Program was released recently. Some changes were retained from the 2018 proposed rule, some were deferred till 2019, while in some cases the approach outlined in the 2017 Final Rule was adopted instead.
Reading and sorting through all the facts and analysis about the 2018 final rule for the QPP is a heavy lift. Here is the first of more to come on some key sites, resources, and experts on the subject.
By Dr. Pawan Jindal – There are generally two ways to participate in MIPS in 2017: as an Individual or as a Group. Beginning 2018, there will be a third option available to individuals and small groups called the “Virtual Group”. The definition of Virtual Group comes from the definition of ‘virtual’ and ‘group’.
CMS issued a final rule for the 2018 Physician Fee Schedule and final rule with comment period for the QPP. The rules reflect the agency’s efforts to promote innovation in healthcare delivery aimed at lowering prices, increasing competition and strengthening the relationship between patients and their doctors.
By Brandy Dehaven – Previously, any eligible clinician without CEMRT could receive reweighting of the ACI performance category, but as of October 1, 2017, clinicians will have to prove that their reasons for not having CEMRT are good enough to receive a hardship exception.
CMS is conducting a field test for eight episode-based cost measures before consideration of their potential use in the cost performance category of the MIPS of the Quality Payment Program.
